Oh dear, I had heard about how good, this album was, but never had actually heard it, as it was out of print. Imagine a union of FIREHOUSE and THE CULT, drenched in sexy lies. Well they preceded FIREHOUSE by a year I guess and they are sleazier than Astbury and co, although the Sonic Temple came out during the same year...VAIN ’s offering is not exactly Sleaze as per ce – but it’s not too serious either. It’s sleek and sexy hard rock, with bravado, the sound of a band playing just for kicks …for themselves, and the sexy female fandom lol. Effortless – sneery – pouting is a triptych that could describe the bands music. Songs like “Secrets”, “Beat the bullet”, the fantastic “Icy”, “No respect” and “Laws against love” have an abundance of cool vocal melodies and raging guitar parts, and they all become instant favorites. To my ears VAIN sound like a more dynamic and dirtier version of Legs Diamond. Simply awesome! Davy Vain – on the cover seems to be dazed, on his knees, in a however rather iconic pose, looking straight towards the unsuspecting potential listener. The production which he supervised himself, as he did with various extreme thrash bands back in the day is clean, dry, bright, but full enough and sounds just right, for the style. God bless the folks at GOTT disks for putting this forgotten jewel out again. I hope to see more quality releases in the future from them. Show you respect to the man & his band. They got all the hearts, diamonds, clubs and spades….now Davy Vain and his company are back and they’re after your ASS!!!
